Problem: The front garden of this Cambridge Residence is five times longer than it is wide. A huge maple is centered in the lawn 2/3rds of the way from the house towards the street.
Solution: The area between the maple and house becomes lawn bordered by flower beds. The maple tree is underplanted with epimedium and ferns and wildflowers. This wild garden is screened from the drive and the street by plantings of mountain laurel, witch hazel and rhododendron.
