Workshop #2: Low Maintenance Plants

March 30, 2004, the GCF of MA held its second Civic Development workshop, “Low Maintenance Plants for Civic Plantings.” Cricket Vlass, horticulturist for the Town of Wellesley, presented a slide lecture on drought tolerant plants.

A panel of garden club members presented their experiences with tough plants in difficult sites: Kathy D’Angelo and Bea Erickson spoke on “Planting Traffic Islands in Reading”; Joan Maurais on “The Herb Garden at the Peabody Institute Library in Danvers”, and Amanda Sloan on “Native Plants for a Lakeside Park in Sharon”.

Cricket’s plant list has been incorporated into “ToughPlants.”

142 people participated.
